Marketing and Communications Internship

OFFICE:           614 W Main Street, Suite 6000, Louisville, KY 40202

HOURS:            9:00am 3:00pm, Monday Thursday (20 hours/week),

June 1 September 15

 

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:

Through marketing support for Greater Louisville Inc. (the chamber of commerce for Greater Louisville), you will develop an understanding of the functions and services of a chamber of commerce, and become entrenched in the marketing strategies and efforts to raise awareness of the GLI brand and engage with important stakeholders in the Louisville community on events, media coverage and overall positioning of the GLI brand.

ORGANIZATION:

Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI) is the chamber of commerce representing five counties in Indiana and ten counties in Kentucky. Services provided by GLI can be defined in three main categories:

  • Chamber of Commerce: GLI is made up of investors who contribute investment dollars for shared services like ribbon cuttings, corporate connections/introductions and corporate events.
  • Advocacy: GLI listens to its investors and their concerns with regard to legislation and advocates for those interests in Frankfort, KY and Washington, D.C.
  • Economic Development: GLI is instrumental in proactively recruiting new businesses to the area, helping existing businesses grow, incubating the entrepreneurial community and attracting, retaining and developing talent.

INTERNSHIP GOALS:

  1. To introduce interns to the services provided by GLI and help interns to see and communicate the value of investment in GLI
  2. To orient interns to a variety of marketing methods, strategies and executions
  3. To provide interns with the opportunity to learn the skills required to be successful in future office and professional settings

INTERSHIP ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Throughout the course of your internship, you will learn a lot about GLI through:

Administrative support:

  • Responding to requests in a timely, professional and courteous manner
  • Providing support to the marketing and talent teams
  • Engaging with marketing team on a regular basis to brainstorm ideas, understand strategies and perform assigned tasks
  • Researching competitive strategies and marketing outlets to gain insights
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Shared Media support (email newsletters, social media channels):

  • Assisting with social media engagement by helping input content for social media channels
  • Drafting and editing copy for social channels and other various marketing materials
  • Executing photographic and video content for social and marketing channels
  • Developing and managing an image/video bank of content
  • Monitoring social media and website analytics on a weekly basis and providing reporting to marketing managers

Website support:

  • Writing and uploading articles to GreaterLouisville.com
  • Uploading news releases to the media center

Design support:

  • Updating templates for collaterals

INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  2. Must have excellent photographic skills
  3. Must have excellent social media skills (Mailchimp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn)
  4. Must have experience with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva
  5. Must have experience with Outlook and Microsoft Office Suite

EVALUATION:

You are encouraged to submit your own ideas, insights and opinions on your tasks and performance throughout the program.You will be continually evaluated throughout the course of your internship. A midpoint evaluation to solicit your feedback will take place, as well as an evaluation of the internship upon program completion.
