INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:

This internship involves product sales support for Greater Louisville Inc. (The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Louisville). Over ten weeks, you will develop an understanding of the functions and services of a chamber of commerce, the logistics of non-dues revenue, and the structured approach to sales and follow up for product activation.

ORGANIZATION:

Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI) is the chamber of commerce representing five counties in Indiana and ten counties in Kentucky. Services provided by GLI can be defined in three main categories:

  • Chamber of Commerce: GLI is made up of approximately 1,600 investor businesses who contribute investment dollars and time for shared services such as corporate connections / introductions, ribbon cuttings, education, and corporate events.
  • Advocacy: GLI listens to its investors and their concerns with regard to legislation and advocates for those interests in Frankfort, KY, Indianapolis, IN, Louisville Metro, and Washington D.C.
  • Economic Development: GLI is instrumental in proactively recruiting new businesses to the area, helping existing businesses grow, incubating the entrepreneurial community and attracting, retaining and developing talent.

 

INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVES:

  • To introduce interns to the services provided by GLI and help interns to see and communicate the value of investment in GLI
  • To introduce interns to GLI's non dues revenue sales
  • To orient interns to a variety of investment methods, strategies and executions
  • To provide interns with the opportunity to learn the skills required to be successful in future office and professional settings 

 

NTERNSHIP ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Throughout the course of your internship, you will learn a lot about GLI, non dues revnue, and investor relations through:

  • Responding to requests in a timely, professional and courteous manner
  • Providing support to the non dues revenue sales team
  • Assisting with product sales
  • Creating invoices for non dues revenue sales for Sponsorship Sales Manager
  • Handling all product follow up and fulfillment (eg, sending out packets & cards etc)
  • Performing other duties as assigned

INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills prior phone experience is a plus
  2. Must be well organized and self-motivated
  3. Must have knowledge of Outlook and Microsoft Office

EVALUATION:

The purpose of this internship is to introduce you to GLI and help you develop professional work experience. You will be continually evaluated throughout the course of your internship, as any employee would be. A midpoint evaluation to solicit your feedback will take place, as well as an evaluation of the internship upon program completion. You are encouraged to submit your own ideas, insights and opinions on your tasks and performance throughout the program.
