Job Title:             Government Affairs & Public Policy Intern       

Department:        Operations

Reports to:          Public Policy Manager

FLSA Status:       Non-Exempt                                  



Fall Semester paid internship with Greater Louisville Inc., starting on August 26, 2019, and ending on December 20, 2019. This internship involves support for Greater Louisville Inc.'s Government Affairs & Public Policy team. During your time with GLI, you will learn about the daily operations of a professional government affairs team and develop an in-depth understanding of public policy issues and the legislative process.


  • Assist with the development and production of GLI's 2020 State Legislative Agenda
  • Assist with Fall 2019 Issue Advisory Committee meetings
  • Assist with planning for GLI's 2019 Advocacy into Action event
  • Conduct in-depth research projects and prepare written reports on public policy issues
  • Assist with the coordination and preparation of meetings with legislators and GLI investors
  • Learn about the daily operations and procedures of the Kentucky and Indiana state legislatures, Louisville Metro Council, and the United States Congress
  • Assist with GLI communications to policymakers and investors
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Assisting with miscellaneous tasks as assigned by supervisor(s)


  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be well organized and self-motivated
  • Must have knowledge of Outlook and Microsoft Office
  • Must have a demonstrable background in research and writing
  • Must have familiarity with basic concepts of government at the local, state, and federal levels
  • A strong interest in public policy and politics is preferred


  • Work is primarily conducted in a typical office environment. Meetings outside of the office at various locations in all weather conditions.
