Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI) - the Metro Chamber of Commerce is focused on growing the regional economy. GENERAL SUMMARY:

Has the overall responsibility of managing the company's organizational communication strategy and leading local, state and federal advocacy efforts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:

  1. Lead a team to develop and manage all activities related to government affairs and public policy
  2. Drive the process to develop GLI's legislative agendas by engaging with business leadership to uncover legislative and policy issues that inhibit economic growth
  3. Represent GLI and GLI's membership during legislative sessions and testify as appropriate
  4. Strategically identify mechanisms to ensure GLI's legislative priorities are accomplished and lead the team to success
  5. Drive the content of GLI policy and advocacy programming and events
  6. Lead the communications team and ensure talking points and messaging materials align with the GLI mission and brand
  7. Oversee the organization's media engagement strategy, including positioning GLI for earned media opportunities
  8. In collaboration with the marketing team, ensure cohesive organizational communications
  9. Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree plus five (5) years in public policy, communications, or government relations. A combination of education and experience may be substituted when proficiency is demonstrated. Leadership skills are primary; familiarity with federal/state/local government structure and legislative and political process. Experience with grassroots advocacy and lobbying.

Ability to exercise judgment and diplomacy in a wide variety of public contact situations. Ability to work with a variety of constituencies including business leaders, public officials, community representatives, etc. Extensive community knowledge is required.

Strong written and oral communication skills are necessary.

Strong collaboration and consensus building skills.

Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.

Well-developed presentation and facilitation skills.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

The incumbent must have computer skills. Experience with the following types of software and/or Windows based applications is preferred: word processing, databases, Internet, e-mail.
